How to create/edit posts
This website is setup to use the block editor for posts (Gutenberg blocks, Kadence Blocks) when creating or editing posts. A first important thing to notice is that the look in the editor will be different from the look of the actual page. To view the page, click on “Save draft” and then “Preview” (upper right corner of the editing screen. I suggest you make a test post to try out the info below.
Setting up the post
First thing to do is to type in the title of the post.
When creating a post you will need to do three other things to setup the post and make it appear in a section on the site: choose the “Post” tab (located under the big blue “Publish” button).
- In Post>Categories choose the category or categories for your post.
- In Post>Tags choose one of “UK, CA, or AU”
- In Post>Featured image choose the image which will appear as a thumbnail on the section indexes ( such as “Migration” page, or “CA” tag page)
Other than these three, it is best to leave the other settings under the Post tab or talk with me about the other options here.
Display available blocks
I’m using the paragraph block here, which you can use by just starting typing. Or you can click on the blue button with the + symbol in the upper right of the screen to display the list of available blocks and choose one from that display.
Page-building strategy
For clean spacing, the strategy is to follow this method:
- Container – Kadence row block
- Columns – one or more inside the row
- Content – blocks placed in the column, or columns
Add a block, or change a block
To make the above bulleted list, I selected the items, and clicked on the paragraph symbol in the block box that appeared on the upper right of the paragraph. When you click anywhere inside a block, the block options appear on the upper right edge of the block. Note that if you hover over the para symbol it suggests that you click it to “Change block type or style”. Once I clicked on it, I chose the “List” block, and the two selected lines became a bulleted list.
Setting for each side can be chosen from the settings panel on the right side of the editor. Note the tabs at the top for “Post” and “Block”. When you set your cursor in a block, the settings for that block appear under the “Block” tab.
The paragraph below uses the Block > Typography > MEDIUM setting:
To add a block, place your cursor where you want the block to appear, click on the block list display and select a block type.
Headings – Text > Heading block
Headings are created in a hierarchy from H1 to H6. They are mainly differentiated by type size. This follows the conventional outline formula: H1 is the post title, and info levels under that should be designated H2, info levels under H2 title should be designated H3, etc. Used for both semantic and structural organization. Some screen reader technologies depend on this outline for navigation.
Options
Choose the “Heading” block to include a heading. The “Advanced heading” block allows more customization.
Intro text – Text > Heading > H6
An emphasized intro text paragraph can be created with the Heading block set to H6. An emphasized intro text paragraph can be created with the Heading block set to H6.
This can be used anywhere in the post.
Quote – Text > Quote
This is the “Large” quote typography setting.
One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections. The bedding was hardly able to cover it and seemed ready to slide off any moment.

Or, this is the “Default” quote typography setting

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean.
